Lead Octoate 36%

Lead Octoate 36% is a clear, liquid drier used in paints and coatings, particularly in industrial applications. It contains 36% lead and acts as an auxiliary drier, promoting through-drying (drying throughout the film) and enhancing flexibility. It is often used in conjunction with primary driers like cobalt and calcium.

Properties:
  • Through-Drier: Lead Octoate 36% ensures that coatings dry evenly, not just on the surface, but also in deeper layers, according to a paint and coatings resource.
  • Flexibility: It helps improve the flexibility of the dried paint or coating film.
  • Corrosion Resistance: It can be used in anti-corrosion coatings, enhancing their durability.
  • Pigment Dispersion: It can act as a dispersion agent for pigments and a grinding aid for coatings.
    Extreme Pressure
  • Additive: In some cases, it is used as an extreme pressure (EP) additive in greases.
Applications:
  • Industrial Coatings: Its use is more prevalent in industrial coatings due to environmental concerns.
  • Other Applications: It can be used in conjunction with other driers like cobalt and calcium. It’s also used in some flexible foams and elastomers.
Safety Handling:

Lead Octoate is a hazardous material. Appropriate safety measures, such as wearing personal protective equipment and avoiding release into the environment, should be followed.

NP-9

NP-9, also known as Nonylphenol Ethoxylate-9, is a nonionic surfactant commonly used in various industrial and domestic cleaning products. It acts as a detergent, emulsifier, and wetting agent, enhancing the performance of formulations by improving the dispersion of substances that don’t easily mix. NP-9 is a man-made compound, often appearing as a waxy or oily solid with a slight amber or orange tint.

Properties:
  • Color: While typically light yellow, NP-9 can darken over time, but this doesn’t affect its performance.
  • Nonionic Surfactant: NP-9 belongs to a class of chemicals that lower the surface tension between liquids or between a liquid and a solid, enabling better mixing and dispersion
  • Detergent, Emulsifier, and Wetting Agent: NP-9 is versatile and effective in these roles, making it useful in a wide range of applications.
  • Solubility: NP-9 is soluble in water and various solvents like chlorinated and polar solvents.
  • Stability: It’s generally stable in the presence of dilute acids, bases, and salts.
Applications:

NP-9 is found in industrial cleaning products, textile processing, and agrochemicals. It’s also a component in various cleaning agents, detergents, and personal care products like shampoos and conditioners.

Calcium Octoate 10%

Calcium Octoate 10% is an organic calcium salt, specifically calcium 2-ethylhexanoate, used as an auxiliary drier in paints and coatings. This pale-yellow liquid contains approximately 10% calcium and enhances the drying performance of paints, especially at lower temperatures. It is commonly used in combination with other driers such as cobalt and lead octoates.

Properties:
  • Auxiliary Drier: Calcium octoate helps to improve the drying process of paints and coatings, especially alkyd-based finishes.
  • Combination with Other Driers: It’s often used alongside cobalt and lead octoates, enhancing the overall drying efficiency.
  • Prevents Lead Haze: In some applications, it helps prevent the formation of lead haze in clear mediums.
  • Metal Content: The metal content, primarily calcium, is typically around 10%.
  • Solubility: It’s soluble in organic solvents but insoluble in water.
Application:

It’s used in the manufacture of paints, inks, and coatings.

Safety Handling:

Proper disposal methods should be followed to avoid environmental contamination.

Anti-Skinning agent MEKO

MEKO is a colorless to pale yellow liquid that is soluble in water and commonly used for its reactivity with compounds containing isocyanate groups. It has several valuable applications across different industries. Primarily used as an anti-skinning agent in paints and coatings. It prevents the formation of a skin or film on the surface of paints, lacquers, and printing inks when they are stored in containers due to premature drying. MEKO achieves this by inhibiting the oxidation process that leads to skin formation, ensuring the paint remains usable and free-flowing.

Properties:

A substance added to paints and coatings to prevent the formation of a skin or film on the surface due to oxidation when exposed to air during storage.

Applications:
  • Paints and Coatings: MEKO is widely used as an anti-skinning agent in various oil-based paints (alkyd, epoxy ester) and other coatings to prevent premature drying and skin formation.
  • Printing Inks: It’s also used in offset printing inks to prevent skinning and maintain the ink’s fluidity.
Safety Handling:

MEKO is considered an irritant, and direct contact with skin or eyes should be avoided.
