Matting Agents

Sylysia 290

SYLYSIA® SY290 is a finely ground, synthetic amorphous silica gel grade. It is mainly used as a matting and anti-blocking agent across different applications. This material provides anti-caking benefits and resistance to mar, while also enabling quick drying in coatings that are receptive to ink. It is appropriate for use in both water and solvent-based paints, coatings, and inks.

Benefits:
  • Matting Agent: SY290 effectively reduces gloss in coatings, providing a matte finish.
  • Anti-Blocking Agent: It prevents surfaces from sticking together, particularly in films and coatings.
  • Anti-Caking Agent: It inhibits the formation of clumps or caking in powders, improving flow and handling.
  • Mar-Resistance: It enhances the resistance of surfaces to scratching and scuffing.
  • Fast Drying: It promotes faster drying times in ink-receptive coatings.
Properties:
  • Paints and Coatings: Widely used in architectural, industrial, and decorative coatings.
  • Inks: Improves the performance of both water-based and solvent-based inks.
  • Adhesives and Sealants: Can be incorporated to enhance certain properties.
  • Plastics: Used as an additive to improve the properties of plastic films and other products.

Sylysia 276F

Sylysia SY 276 F is a micronized silica (silica gel), known for its use as a matting agent and anti-blocking agent in various coatings, inks, and plastics. It’s characterized by its fine pore network, narrow particle size distribution, and ability to control gloss and prevent films from sticking together.

Benefits:
  • Matting Agent: Sylsysia SY 276 F is effective in reducing the gloss of coatings and inks, providing a matte finish.
  • Anti-blocking Agent: It prevents polymer films from sticking together, improving handling and processing.
  • Controlled Particle Size and Pore Volume: Fuji Silysia offers a range of Sylsysia grades with varying pore volumes and particle sizes to suit specific applications.
  • Surface Treatment: The silica surface can be treated to improve compatibility with resins and solvents, and to enhance properties like anti-caking and burnish resistance.
Properties:
  • Coatings: Used as a matting agent in solvent-borne, waterborne, and radiation-curable coatings.
  • Inks: Improves ink receptivity and prevents blocking in printing inks.
  • Plastics: Prevents blocking and sticking of plastic films, improving processing and handling.
  • Other Applications: Can be used in adhesives, sealants, and even cosmetics.
